POWERFUL PLATFORMS

Beyonce is sporting my shoes in the new issue of InTouch.  She's worn them on the Red Carpet, performing and in her videos, but this is the first time they've been featured with her in a major mag like this one.

People always ask me - "do you pay celebrities  to wear your shoes, or give them free shoes, or what?"  Well here's the answer. Usually what happens is the celebrity's stylist finds a pair of shoes that she or he knows his or her client will LOVE.  It doesn't matter if the shoes are free, celebs can wear whatever they want, and you can be sure if they are wearing a pair of shoes, it is because they actually like them.  What's cute is that both Solange (Beyonce's sister) and their mom Tina have shoes from me now - the whole family loves them!  In fact, we just sent another pair over to Beyonce just like the caramel colored platforms above because she said she likes to perform in this style because they're so comfortable.  LOVE LOVE LOVE to hear that.  Check out my website for where to buy 'em...    www.ruthiedavis.com.

NYC Fashion Week: Christian Francis Roth

Here's a couple of images of my shoes on the runway with designer Christian Francis Roth from last week. In 1990, after his first show at age 21, he was heralded by WWD as 7th Avenue's latest boy wonder (a la Zac Posen).  Now he's back,  and launching his new label, "Francis by Christian Francis Roth."  He showed some fun, slightly cynical gossip girl-esque outfits, including an "Acoste" polo dress with an oversized alligator eating the oversized Ralph polo player (wwd.com for more o' that).  I myself enjoy a little humor in an outfit, as is clear from my Fashion Week get-up.  Me and a girlfriend (who works for Mac)are seen here hanging out between shows in Bryant Park.

Desert Camo

Desert has a keen eye for accessories. She always seems to be on or near something that shares her coloring. Sometimes I can't find her because she blends so easily into her environment.  I think she is a fan of camo.  Maybe I should have named her Desert Camo.

Obsession: Rompers

I am absolutely obsessed with Rompers.  Why, you ask?  Well, for starters I have always loved any kind of one-piece unit.  Growing up as a skier, I wore one-piece ski suits, which led to a love of cat-suits, flight-suits, overalls - basically anything that is a unit.  I am also obsessed by anything mini.... so if you think of a Romper as a mini-cat-suit that shows lots of leg (and of course, shoes!), it makes sense that I would be as infatuated as I am.  I love Katy Perry's style (and music and no, not her cherry chapstick...) I thought Marc Jacobs and Betsy Johnson's Rompers on the Spring 09 runway were hot.  And of course, I had to get into the mix with my own mini mini black Romper/catsuit by Tart.  Dream item: a black down Romper by Moncler that includes sleeves and a hoodie and zips up the front. Oh yeah.

Beyoncé at "Fashion Rocks"

Here is Beyoncé kicking off New York Fashion Week at Condé Nast's "Fashion Rocks" event. She is singing one of my favorite songs of all time, "At Last" by the legendary Etta James. But check out those shoes! (They're Mine!)

Photo Shoot: Japan's "Soup" Magazine

"Soup", a very cool Japanese magazine, came to my apartment to do a photo shoot of me on Saturday. Of course, I made sure to wear a different pair of fabulous shoes in each shot. Desert was also there in pretty much every frame, and by the end of the shoot, she had her own mini super-model tantrum.

Colette Paris x GAP New York

Gap has commissioned renowned Paris boutique Colette to create a special one-month installation in Gap's rotating concept store adjacent to the New York City flagship store at 54th and 5th Avenue.  This is the first Colette store in the US.  Similar to the Parisian store, Colette x Gap store will offer a mix of hard-to-find products from around the world.

Of course I had to go there asap to pick up a "Colette Incase IPhone 3G before they sold out.  I haven't yet bought the 3G IPhone, but the case is more important no?

Introducing: Desert

This is Desert. She is a 6-year-old Italian Greyhound. I named her after Palm Springs, California, one of my favorite places in the world. Isn't she sooo adorable? She goes everywhere I go: work, jogging, shopping, traveling. You'll be seeing much more of her if you check back here often.

Highlight: Design

This is "La Chaise", a chair designed by Ray and Charles Eames in 1948 for MoMA's International Competition for Low-Cost Furniture Design. Ironically, it was too expensive to produce in large quantities until 1990! I call it the "Ski Chair" because it reminds me of a ski slope covered in a fresh white snow.  I also love the clean lines and  simplicity of the form.  I just bought a mini version of La Chaise at the "Vitra" Design store in the Meatpacking District that I am keeping on my desk for inspiration.

Architecture Alert!

This is the Frey House in Palm Springs, California. I Love Palm Springs. That's why I named my dog "Desert", and it's where I draw a lot of my design inspiration. Palm Spring Mid Century Modern Architecture is out-of-this-world: sleek, minimal and futuristic. My shoes often reflect my love of this area in subtle (and not so subtle!) ways. Check out my shoe called the "Video" from my Spring/Summer 2008 Collection. I call the heel the "Architectural Heel" with a corrugated metal insert. Notice any similarities to the Frey House?

Danger Diabolik: My Favorite Film

Eva Kant Looks Hot in her go-go Boots and dangerously short mini sheath

This movie, directed by Mario Bava in 1968, is easily my favorite film of all time. The heroine, Eva Kant, is the original bad girl of Italian Cinema. The music, the cinematography, and the outrageous storyline are all fantastic, but its the style that really makes the impact. See what I mean by watching the trailer.  When I design my shoes and boots, I imagine them on Eva Kant.
