MAKING BUCKLES:

I have to go to a different factory for each part of what makes up a shoe. These are raw unfinished buckles at my buckle factory in Italy.

This is the mold that houses a custom designed buckle shape. The hot metal material is then poured into this mold to make the buckles.

Here is the vat of very hot hot hot metal...

Big blocks of metal are melted down to make the buckles.

People have this image of big factories with lots of people in an assembly line making things, but it is really more like a small group of craftspeople working on specific things to perfection. I have separate factories for making my heels, outsoles, zippers, leathers, etc. It's my job to coordinate all of these people to put their work all together into one Ruthie Davis shoe....xoxo

WHY I LOVE ITALY:

I love my Italian friends.

I love the Italian dogs.

I love the Italian decor.

I love the Italian wine, cheese, olive oil and bread.

And most of all, I love the Italian cafe that I drink a lot of while designing my shoes....xoxo

FASHION WEEK IN THE TENTS:

At the entrance to the Tents - my PR guy Matt acted as my paparazzi.  I think I was channeling a mix of Lady GaGa, Beyonce and Anna Wintour.

Talking shoes with the Fashion Editors at Footwear News.  Or course, I had to point out my Pluto Peep-toe pumps in all black and how they were a perfect choice for the Dennis Basso's runway show as they are clean and classic with a fiercely high and edgy heel.  I mean, even the "ladies who lunch" need a little edge.

The pic is not so good, but I was sitting in the front row on the runway and it was a little hard to take a pic with the Vogue editors directly across from you, Ivana Trump on your right and Mary Louise Parker on your left.

My favorite look in the show were Dennis's gorgeous midnight blue dresses paired with my Plutos in cashmere taupe with platino heels and baby ice blue outsoles.  It was just so fresh!

Backstage after the show, one more paparazzi shot in front of the wall of Looks from the show.  Matt and I celebrated with a couple of glasses of champagne.  Ah, the life of a fashion designer....xoxo

IT'S ALL IN THE MIX:

I love mixing elements.  I don't know what it is about the mix that excites me.  Crystals by themselves are not my thing but mixed with the silver spike studs and bam - I'm in love!  I also am coveting this Eames storage unit right now. xoxo

SHOES I DIE FOR:

Whenever I see this new image of my "Graffiti" pumps from ZINK's Sept issue (which is awesome btw), I can't help but hear Rachel Zoe's voice saying "I die!" xoxo

DARK MIXED WITH LIGHT

I am really loving all of the night lights I keep seeing lately.  It's like the new thing - adding a green or pink or purple light that shines at night.  This is my new favorite house - such cool mystery and simple beauty and what I love about NYC's new Highline Park is the purple light that shines when you walk on the Highline after dark.  xoxo
